Shelebrate Shel Silverstein All Year Long!
From Lafcadio, the Lion Who Shot Back to The Giving Tree, from Where the Sidewalk Ends to Runny Babbit, Shel Silverstein has inspired readers to dream, imagine, think and laugh for decades—and now we’re bringing the magic of Shel to life again with a year-long Shelebration® event of his most beloved works.
We’ll feature a new book on our Shel Silverstein Facebook page each month, along with weekly content from the featured title for kids, parents, teachers, and librarians. “Start Your Week With Shel” with an illustrated excerpt from the book that you can share on your own Facebook page. Express yourself with “Thursday Thoughts,” unique conversation starters for Shel’s fan community, and share a smile on “Sunday Funday” with animations, videos, and song clips from the books. Finally, “Work Those Brain Shels” with our activity suggestions for parents, teachers, and librarians to use Shel’s poems with kids.
This month, we’re kicking off the Shelebration® event with the first anniversary of Shel’s latest collection of poems and drawings, Every Thing On It, to help you ease back into the school year. Then, in honor of Shel’s birthday on September 25, don’t forget to post your own (rhyming, of course!) birthday wishes for Shel on Facebook.
So whether you’re a devoted Shel fan or new to his extraordinary world, join us and say Hi-ho for the toilet troll, watch out for the man-eating plant, and be thankful you’re not in nasty school!
