A Poetry Month Shelebration® Event

April 2013

It’s time to start the Shelebration® event—Poetry Month 2013 is here! This year, we’ve drawn upon poems from across Shel Silverstein’s classic poetry books—Where the Sidewalk Ends, A Light in the Attic, Falling Up, and Every Thing On It—to create a brand-new poetry resource that we hope you’ll find useful in your Poetry Month celebrations and beyond. In the new Poetry Workshop Kit, available here on shelsilverstein.com, children will learn about many different types of poetry, gain clever tips to write their own, and compile their own poetry portfolio, all while having some fun along the way. And don’t forget to check out our full line-up of Poetry Month materials from years past!

In addition, the Poetry Month festivities will continue on the Shel Silverstein Facebook, where you’ll find shareable poem images, activities, classroom ideas, and more featuring Where the Sidewalk Ends.

“If you are a dreamer, come in,
If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,
A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer . . .
If you’re a pretender, come sit by my fire
For we have some flax-golden tales to spin.
Come in!
Come in!”

—“Invitation” by Shel Silverstein, Where the Sidewalk Ends

Happy Poetry Month!
